In Defiance, your EGO (Environmental Guardian Online) unit is an implant designed by VBI for Ark Hunters. This implant provides your player with some unique abilities. Today we’re going to focus on the different powers that are available to you via your EGO implant. The primary powers right now are Blur, Cloak, Decoy, and Overcharge.
The Blur power makes the player’s character faster for a short period of time. This gives players the ability to dodge oncoming enemy attacks and strike with more furious melees. As you level this power up you will increase the duration of its effects. Each EGO point you assign to Blur provides an additional 2 seconds.
The Cloak power gives players that ability to become invisible for a short while. This works exceptionally well against PvE enemies because you can be standing almost directly in front of them when you activate it and they’ll still have no clue where you went (in most cases). Anytime you are attacked or attack an enemy yourself the cloak will fade until the strike is finished. Adding EGO points to upgrade this power reduces the amount of time it takes for the Cloak ability to recharge.
Known Perks: Ambush, Longshot, Sucker Punch
The Ambush perk increases the amount of critical damage a player deals when using Cloak. This perk only works when Cloak is active and the player attacks an enemy that is not already in combat-mode (so it can’t be shooting at you or any other player). EGO points increase the percentage of crit damage dealt.
The Longshot perk increases the chances of a nano-effect to trigger when using weapons that have one equipped. This only activates when the player is at least 40 meters away from the enemy, though (hence the name). Adding EGO points to upgrade this perk increases the overall chance percentage.
The Sucker Punch perk increases the amount of damage a player deals when attacking an enemy from behind. Spending your EGO points to upgrade this perk provides additional damage.
As the name implies, the Decoy power gives the player the ability to send out a hologram replica of himself/herself to distract enemies. The hologram will run in a straight line until it hits something (like a rock or vehicle), has been shot too much by hostiles, or the ability energy has been depleted. The more EGO points you use to upgrade Decoy, the more health it is.
Known Perks: Efficient Projection, Feedback, Rear Guard, Self-Medicated, Sensor Sweep
The Efficient Projection perk gives the player the ability to recharge ally shields while reviving himself/herself. This works once your player is downed and you choose to perform a self-revive. Upgrading the perk increases the amount of time it lasts.
The Feedback perk makes it so that once your shields charge up to 100% you will be able to reflect incoming attacks for 3 seconds. This has a cooldown time of 5 seconds. Adding EGO points to upgrade it increase the total amount of damage your player will reflect.
The Rear Guard perk allows the player to take less damage when being attacked from behind. This is greatly increased by up to 45% when upgraded.
The Self-Medicated perk applies to your ability to revive yourself. It effectively speeds up the recharge rate of self-revive giving you more chances to help yourself when downed rather than spend Scrip to bring yourself back to an active, combat state. The more you upgrade the perk, the faster your recharge rate will be.
The Sensor Sweep perk is one that is especially helpful in PvP battles (such as Team Deathmatch or Shadow War). Whenever you use your Decoy power with this perk equipped all enemies using Cloak (within a reasonable distance from your player) will be revealed. This is great because a lot of players use and abuse the Cloak ability in PvP matches. So being able to see them despite them being invisible is invaluable. The more you upgrade this perk the more range the sensor has.

The Overcharge power allows players to momentarily increase the overall damage weapons deal and also reduce the amount of recoil it has. Upgrading the power by adding EGO points to it increases the amount of time the power lasts, provides additional damage boosts, and, eventually, gives the player the ability to reload his/her weapon instantly.
Known Perks: Killing Machine, Pinata, Preparedness, Quick Charge, Risk Taker, Turn the Tide
The Killing Machine perk increases the total duration of the Overcharge power. For every EGO point spent to upgrade the perk, an additional 2 seconds is added to the duration for up to 6 seconds.
The Pinata perk acts as a boost to your ability to find loot on enemies but it only applies whenever you use an explosive to kill the enemy. For every explosive kill you’ll have a greater chance of looting valuable gear off the enemy. Upgrading the perk slightly increases your chances.
The Preparedness perk is pretty unique. It makes it so that the weapon you have stowed away (primary or secondary) will automatically reload over time. This is a slow process but can be somewhat useful. Every time you upgrade the perk the amount of ammo per second that is reloaded is increased.
The Quick Charge perk simply decreases the overall recharge time of the Overcharge EGO power. For every upgrade, 3 seconds is deducted from the recharge time.
The Risk Taker perk is tricky. Whenever your shields are completely depleted, it increases the amount of time that your EGO power is active for (but only if it the power was activated BEFORE the shields were down). This has a 5 second cooldown. The more you upgrade the perk the longer the EGO power extension is.
The Turn the Tide perk is one designed for players who wish to play a healing role. Anytime you are reviving a friendly player with it active, your self-revive will recharge. The more EGO points you spend to upgrade the perk, the more you recharge your revive.
