Black Ops 2 Sticks and Stones Overview

If you played the first Call of Duty Black Ops game you’ll no doubt remember the fast-paced, action-packed fun times that could be had while playing wager matches. They were the pinnacle of fun. They forced players to use weapons that may be out of the ordinary for their playing style or ones that presented a challenge, such as the Crossbow, Ballistic Knife and Tomahawk setup found in the popular Sticks and Stones gametype. Well, S&S is back in full force in BO2 with some improvements and added bonuses.

Black Ops 2 Sticks and Stones

For those of you who haven’t played this gametype, it is a Party game where 6 players are given only a Crossbow, a Ballistic Knife and a Combat Axe to play with. You get points by getting kills. Crossbow and Ballistic Knife (not close combat knifing but an actual ballistic shot) kills earn more points than a Combat Axe but getting a kill with the Combat Axe will “bankrupt” your opponent which means they lose all of their points.

The Crossbow is upgraded from the version found in the original Black Ops. Instead of firing just one shot before having to reload this weapon can now fire 3 bolts before needing a new magazine.

Tips for Using the Crossbow

A “stick”, where the bolt attaches to the opponent, will kill a player. You can also earn kills by shooting bolts into the ground or object near opponents to kill them with splash damage but this doesn’t always result in a kill. Bolts fired from the Crossbow travel along an arch when fired at longer distances. To increase accuracy fire your bow slightly in front of a running target and also slightly above a target if they are further in the distance.

Also keeping in mind that Crossbow bolts are explosive you can also earn easy kills by sticking your arrows into objects that explode such as barrels or cars. These sorts of kills in Sticks and Stones earn just as many points as a regular kill.

Tips for Using the Ballistic Knife

The Ballistic Knife in BO2 is slightly more accurate than the one found in BO1 but still requires a bit of patience and trial & error to get used to. It’s best to fire this from a short to medium range and to aim slightly in front of your target to earn a kill. A fired knife will earn 100 points whereas a stab with the BK will only net you 25 points.
