BO2 has been out for a little over a month now. Some players have been on the game since launch day but many new faces are showing up every day (a huge spike came after Christmas day) and most players are now getting comfortable with the game. But no matter how good or bad you may think you are, there will ALWAYS be room for improvement with your gameplay. Below we’ve outlined a few of the best multiplayer tips you can use to help better your game and increase your kill to death ratio.
1. Find a Weapon That Suits You
For every Call of Duty game out there, players always end up sticking with just 2 or 3 different loadouts. Finding the right guns that fit both your personal playing style and the maps on BO2 will help you greatly. If you’re a run & gun style player, find a great SMG such as the MP7 or PDW (both fast and powerful guns). The MP7 is strong but only effective at short range. The PDW, on the other hand, has moderate power, better range and higher accuracy.
For maps that have long, open stretches of terrain, try using a strong assault rifle or sniper rifle. Maps like Turbine are huge and have great spots where you can setup with a sniper and pick enemies off left and right. Currently our most favored snipers are the DSR-50 and the Ballista. The DSR is best for long-range sniping as it has more power and will result in more one shot kills and less hit markers. The Ballista is best for short (quickscoping) to medium range as it comes up faster and is fairly accurate in close range.
Assault rifles are best used for medium to long range combat. They are generally more accurate and stronger than SMGs. Some of the best ones in BO2 are the FAL-OSW (high damage, high accuracy, low fire rate), the SMR (similar to FAL but with more damage, less accuracy) and the AN-94 (well rounded gun with moderate fire rate, damage, range and accuracy).

Light machine guns pack serious punch, have moderate to high damage output and hold TONS of ammo. But, with all of those benefits there are also a few setbacks. LMGs are very large and bulky. They force your player to run much slower and have a lower response time. They are best for medium to long range combat. The 2 most commonly used are the LSAT (moderate levels across the board) and the HAMR (has a bit more damage and higher fire rate than the LSAT with sacrifices made to range and accuracy).
Shotguns are supposed to be designed for close quarters combat but a few of the ones found in BO2 have some serious range on them, especially when the Long Barrel attachment is added. The strongest and most accurate are the R870 MCS pump action shotgun and the KSG (has maxed out damage). These are great for tight spaces, corners and getting out of tough situations on the fly.
2. Use the Right Weapon Attachments
Weapon attachments can make a world of difference in Black Ops 2. They can increase your ammo, give your gun more range, provide better sights for targeting enemies more accurately and much, much more. Picking the “right” ones comes down to a matter of personal preference.
If you want to be as quick as possible attachments such as Fast Mag and Quickdraw can be a godsend. Fast Mag allows you to reload a good deal faster while Quickdraw allows you to aim down the sights faster. If you want greater damage or range attachments like Long Barrel (increases weapon range), FMJ (gives bullets more penetration through objects) and Grenade Launcher can help a ton. Play around with the attachments to get a feel for which improve your gameplay.
3. Take Cover when Reloading
If you’ve just filled an enemy (or several) with lead and are low on ammo, you’ll need to reload. But doing so out in the open leaves you a very exposed and vulnerable target. If you’re able to, make sure you’re able to get behind a crate, a car, a wall or any other object when reloading. It’ll greatly increase your survival time. If you don’t have time to reload, make sure you equip a pistol as your secondary to swap to. It’s always faster to swap weapons than to reload.
4. Aim for the Head
For the sake of conserving precious ammo, getting more kills and just looking like more of a badass altogether, make sure you get in the habit of aiming for the heads of your enemies. You’ll deal more damage and have a great chance of getting fast, one-shot kills by popping your foes in-between the eyes.
5. Practice Fancy Footwork
As with any real-life example, hitting a moving target is much more difficult than one that’s standing still. If you find yourself pitted 1 on 1 against an enemy make sure you’re moving around a good bit. Get more accustomed to aiming while in motion and strafe, circle and dance your way away from fire. Even against a skilled opponent this can help keep you alive longer by keeping you out the line of fire more. Bullets are more likely to stray away from you while you’re moving around than if you’re running at or away from your foe in a straight line.
